Document Description
General Plan Amendment (GPA) to modify the Critical Deer Wintering Area designation for a portion of the Upper Sacramento Deer Winter Range. The GPA would replace the current 10-acre density designation with a zero-acre density designation for an approximate 260-acre portion of the Upper Sacramento Deer Winter Range on the east side of Lake Siskiyou. The current Deer Winter Range boundary line is not proposed to be adjusted or removed. The amendment is being proposed consistent with the California Department of Fish and Game's (DFG's) field determination. According to DFG staff wildlife biologists, the area no longer winter any substantial number of deer. The value for that function has been lost due to past and existing development in the area. The Shasta Holiday Subdivision, the Mt. Shasta Resort golf course and vacation chalets, and the sewage treatment ponds are included in the area recommended for zero density limitations.
