Document Description
SAA R3-2002-0868 This project is being undertaken in response to infestation of eucalyptus trees with the red gum lerp psyllid, a small insect that causes death in infested trees. The trees in question are along the banks of San Luis Creek between PM 31 and 32.5, on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo County. There is a concern that the dead and/or dying trees have been significantly compromised and pose a real threat of falling onto Highway 101 this winter. Of the approximately 500 infested eucalyptus trees in the project area 247 are proposed for removal at this time. Of the 247 trees that are to be removed approximately 50 are on the upper banks of San Luis Creek. The tree removal will be done using hand-help equipment and no equipment shall enter the live stream channel. After cutting, the tree stumps will be chemically treated to prevent sprouting. All foliage 4" in diameter and smaller will be chipped and spread on site and everything larger than 4" will be removed from the right-of-way.
