Document Description
The Marsten Pump Station Upgrade and Outfall Pipeline Project (project) is comprised of replacing the existing pump station, a new transfer structure, an outfall pipeline, and a discharge structure. The first phase consists of a 66-inch diameter pipeline that will cross under U.S. Highway 101 and a portion of Easton Creek at a location at least 100 feet from the San Francisco Bay shoreline (i.e., mean high tide). The construction method will be tunneling. The project includes a new pump station 1,080 square feet, six 250 horsepower (hp) pumps to replace an existing pump station (476 square feet, four 50 hp pumps) at Marsten Road and Easton Creek. Replacement pumps will ultimately be sized to convey a 100-year storm flow, but will be installed in phases (the first 750 square foot installation will have a 30-year storm flow capacity, and will include three 250 hp pumps as well as the existing pumps). Emergency power will be provided by two diesel generators, requiring a 2,100 to 2,500-gallon aboveground storage tank (AST), depending on the type and size of the pumps installed. A transfer structure, most likely a 72-inch pipe, will also be constructed to transmit overflow from Easton Creek to into the fore-bay structure at 1380 Marsten Road.
