Document Description
The proposed project consists of the conversion of a 7-kilometer (km) (4.3 mile) section of United States Highway 50 (US 50) from an expressway to a freeway east of Placerville. The freeway conversion would be accomplished by replacing existing intersections and driveways with an interchange connecting a network of frontage roads and/or local roads. The purpose of this project is to improve safety and traffic operations on U.S. Highway 50. The elimination of at-grade intersections and driveways will reduce the potential for accidents. A median barrier is also being proposed along the project's entire length, which will reduce the severity of accidents. Safety will also be improved by widening inside and outside shoulders on U.S. Highway 50.
