Document Description
The project proposes the replacement of the existing Gerald Desmond Bridge, connecting Route 710 to Terminal Island, in order to: 1) provide sufficient roadway capacity to accommodate current and future traffic demand; 2) reduce approach grades; 3) provide a structurally sound and seismically resistant bridge; and 4) provide vertical clearance that would allow for some existing container ships and new-generation vessels currently being constructed to pass through the Back Channel.
