Document Description
Final Closure and Post-Closure Maintenance Plan for the Big Oak Flat (Groveland) Landfill, involved an area of approximately 10 acres, including the 5 +/- acre footprint of the landfill which ceased acceptng waste in May 2001. The project site is presently devoid of vegetation. Closure activities will include clearing and grubbing of larger rock material, foundation layer preparation (moderate grading), pacement and compaction of the 24-inch thick foundation soil layer, installation of 60-millimeter Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) geomembrane coupled with intallation of the cover drainage system, placement and compaction of a 12-inch thick vegetative soil layer using on-site meaterial from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) permitted borrow area, and seeding the project area using a native seed mixture approved by the BLM in conjunction with miscellaneous drainage and erosion control improvements. The end of use of the site will be non-irrigated open space and continued operation of the medium volume Groveland transfer station. Post-closure monitoring will include installation of four gas migration monitoring probes and maintenance of the existing groundwater and surface water monitoring systems.
