Document Description
Project provided a pre-cast steel bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Calabazas Creek and right of way fencing of an existing maintenance road to allow public access and create a recreational trail parallel to a 9000 foot long segment of Calabazas Creek from Mission College to Old Mountain View-Alviso Road. Improvements consist of bridge abutment and retaining structure construction outside of the 100 year flood plain, placement of a pre-fabricated steel bicycle/pedestrian bridge, chain link fence and gate construction to allow public access from public streets but prohibit public access to the creek channel, and sign erection. Project is within existing public agency rights of way. No new public agency rights of way or temporary or permanent easements will be acquired as part of the project, although access agreements between the City of Sunnyvale and the Santa Clara Valley Water District and the City of San Francisco Water Department will be executed to define the responsibilities for public access. Project will not require the modification or alteration of any water resource. Construction of bridge abutments and modification of an existing floodwall will require pile drilling equipment, concrete trucks, and trucks and equipment for the erection of forms. This work will take place on the top of artificial levees outside of the creek channel. Within the creek channel but outside of the live flow channel, a construction crane will be used to place a pre-fabricated steel bicycle and pedestrian bridge.
