Document Description
The Lynwood Unified School District (District) proposes to expand Lugo Elementary School by 1.19 acres while increasing its enrollment from 563 to 720 students. The expansion would provide the extra space needed to facilitate the existing elementary school's attempt to replace its current portable classrooms, which were brought in initially to accommodate the over-enrollment at the school, with new permanent school buildings and other related uses. The proposed project includes site expansion that would replace the eight existing residential properties and the eastern section of Nedra Street with new hard courts and 49 new parking spaces in a surface lot located along the western edge of the site. In addition, three portable classrooms would be relocated to the western portion of the site, situated between the new hard courts and surface parking lot. Expansion activities would also include the modification of the new terminus of Nedra Street to include a gated entrance to the expanded school site. In addition to the proposed off-site improvements described above, the District also proposes on-site improvements to the Lugo Elementary School, including the replacement of existing temporary classrooms with permanent classrooms.
