Document Description
Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2002-0585 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1601 for the following project. The proposed work consists of cutting exposed piles within the Caltrans right-of-way in the channel of Big River below the Highway 1 Bridge in Mendocino County. The work may occur over a five year period as additional piles may be exposed as a result of shifting sands. Caltrans is required to insure that trestle piles do not become exposed or otherwise constitute a hazard to boats. The actual removal will be accomplished with an underwater hydraulic chainsaw with support equipment aboard a small boat. Access to the piles would be via the beach and a "Vactor" truck may be used to remove dry sand around the piles before removal. The actual cutting should take no more than five minutes. All cut piles will be removed outside of the Big River channel.
