Document Description
The Orange County Water District owns and operates approximately 1,100 acres of water recharge spreading facilities located in and adjacent to the Santa Ana River. Water recharged here provides up to 75% of the water needs of over 2 million Orange County residents and workers. The District is continuously looking for improvements to monitoring and measuring the water flow rates entering and exiting existing facilities. Weir Pond No. 3 is one of the District's primary basins for transferring water to downstream basins. The need for measuring water flow exiting and entering an existing facility allows the opportunity to track the efficiency of existing basins.
The project entails the following: The existing Weir Pond No. 3 is a non-engineered concrete structure. The existing structure will be demolished with the new-engineered structure constructed in the same location. The new-engineered weir structure will not increase capacity or expand beyond existing structure footprint.

The reconstruction is of an existing concrete weir located on the same site as the original one and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the original. The reconstruction of an existing structure is consistent with the intention of the CEQA Guidelines, Section 15302 for exemption to the replacement or reconstruction of existing public structures. This project will not increase the Field Headquarters site.
