Document Description
The project consists of formally designating boundaries for the West Oakland Redevelopment Project Area and adopting the West Oakland Redevelopment Plan and related documents. The Redevelopment Plan and its Implementation Plan will serve as the guide for future public and private development and physical improvement activities. The goals of the Redevelopment Plan include eliminating blight and blighting influences and restoring and improving the fabric of the area. Specific activities that may be undertaken through redevelopment include improving the quality of the housing stock, maintaining and expanding the supply of housing, both market-rate and affordable, increasing opportunities for home ownership, reducing conflicts between residential and industrial land uses, providing streetscape improvements and community facilities to enhance neighborhood quality and foster economic and neighborhood vitality, improving public safety, and restpring or eliminating blighted properties. The activities included in the Redevelopment Plan and Implementation Plan will be developed in consultation with the West oakland Project Area Committee and the public in a timely manner.
