Document Description
This project involves the issuance of a lease by CDF to the US Forest Service (USFS) for the purpose of constructing a less than 2500 sq. ft. barracks/ office building within the Jackson Demonstration State Forest, about 18 miles east of Ft. Bragg on Hwy 20, across from the Chamberlain Creek Conservation Camp. The building is to house forest research personnel from the USFS, CDF, and university, and provide much-needed office space and a meeting area on the forest.

Reasons for Exemption
The Class 3 categorical exemption allows for, but is not limited to, the construction of a store, motel, office, restaurant or similar structure not involving the use of significant amounts of hazardous substances, not exceeding 2500 square feet in floor area, compatible with local zoning, where utilities and public services are available, and the surrounding area is not environmentally sensitive. The proposed new building will use an existing water supply and leach field, as well as electrical and phone cables available in the mobile home compound. The project site has been investigated and does not have any sensitive resource issues and the zoning, Timber Production Zone, allows for uses compatible with forestry activities.
