The Silverwood Lake Water Treatment Plant is a five acre area on which CLAWA maintains two aboveground reservoirs, a water clarifier, two holding tanks, sludge beds, and several control buildings.
Document Description
At the Silverwood Lake WTP site, the proposed project will include the installation of six pairs of 10 foot by 18 foot tall Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Contractors on approximately 4,125 square feet of graded land immediately east of Backwash Holding Tank #2 within the WTP boundary. When in operation, the GAC Contractors will be serviced by one semi-truck on a monthly basis to change the internal carbon media. An additional approximately 2,500 square feet of previously graded pad area will be used as a service truck turnaround area. Additional structures to be constructed include the installation of one 50 hp and one 100 hp booster pumps and minimal lengths of pipe to connect the GAC Contractors to existing pipelines. A proposed 30 foot by 15 foot building will be constructed adjacent to the north end of the existing filter building located at the northern edge of the WTP site to house boosters and dechlorination equipment. As a part of this project, a 15 foot by 30 foot building will be added to the east side of the existing control building located west of the proposed GAC units. An existing emergency wastewater basin will be converted into a percolation bed to process additional clarifier sludge resulting from the proposed project. The bottom of the existing 0.2 acre basin will be scarified, perforated pipes will be installed, and then covered with sand and gravel to complete the conversion. The proposed project will remove precursors to Trihelomethanes (THMs) and (THMs) themselves from water within the CLAWA water delivery system. The project is proposed in response to existing Department of Health regulations involving water quality. The proposed project will improve water quality leading to compliance with water quality standards.
