Document Description
This project is the initial work for the larger Feliz Creek bridge retrofit project. This work will consist of standard penetration testing and drilling to determine the geotechnical properties of the substrate. Feliz Creek is an intermittent creek in this area and supports steelhead. The work will consist of staging a drilling rig either on the bridge deck or possibly in the dry streambed, and drilling through the bridge decking and installing steel castings through the decking or into the soil below the bridge. The steel casting will contain drilling fluids, drill rod and bit and will return the drill castings back to a tank located on the bridge. Once completed the hole will be filled with bentonite chips up to approximately 15 feet of the surface and the remaining 15 feet sealed with a bentonite/cement grout. Holes will be approximately 5" in diameter and average 30 meters deep with the deepest being generally not deeper than 60 meters. Work is expected to take place over a ten week period with one boring per bent for a total of ten test drillings. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2002-0169, pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1601.
