Document Description
The proposed project will repair a damaged section of concrete bank protection in Cholame Creek along Highway 46 at PM 52.3 in San Luis Obispo County. The repair work will remove the existing panels that were undermined and have slipped into Cholame Creek. In place of the failed slabs, rock slope protection (RSP) will be installed in the same footprint as the concrete it is replacing. Bank excavation will be necessary to dig the toe trench which will allow the RSP to conform to the existing grade. The length of the repair is approximately 44 meters out of a total of approximately 200 meters of concrete slab slope protection. The work area will need to be dewatered during the repair (approximately 15 days) and this will be accomplished by constructing a coffer dam diversion upstream of the work area. Flows form the creek will be diverted around the work site via a 1.219 meter culvert in the creek. Flows will be released into an instream siltation basin to be established behind a downstream coffer dam. A silt fence will also be erected in the stream to futher isolate the construction area. Upon completion of the work, the silt from behind the silt fence and siltation basin will be removed. When this is done, the silt fence upstream and downstream coffer dams will be removed and the streambed returned to the pre-project grade. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2002-0293 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1601.
