Document Description
Acquisition of 339 acre natural, cutural, and scenic property on the coastal terrace of Del Norte County. Grant from the Conservancy up to $1,500,000 to Del Norte County to acquire the property and to prepare a management plan for the property, working with state and federal resource agencies, Tolowa Indian representatives, environmental groups and the business community using a consensus process. Total cost of property is $3,000,000. Wildlife Conservation Board and Smith River Rancheria are expected to be partner funders with the Conservancy. Funds from WCB are expected to be approved in August, 2002, and from the Smith River Rancheria in May or June, 2002. Property would be managed to protect natural scenic and archeological resources, and to provide public access consistent with resource protection. The project is of regional, statewide and national significance in terms of value of coastal resources and opportunities for public access and education.
