Document Description
The campus is proposed to be constructed and operational in 2003-04. The new college campus will occupy 40 acres and will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 will include 65,000 square feet of building floor area and Phase 2 will include an additional 65,000 square feet of building floor area. The primary buildings will include classrooms, laboratories, adminstration buildings, and a gymnasium or fitness center. At full build-out the campus will accommodate 2,500 full-time equivalent students, and 30 full-time and 75 part-time employees. College classes generally occur during three distinct time periods during weekdays: 7 AM to 2 PM, 2 PM to 6 PM and 6 PM to 10 PM. It is anticipated that in Phase 1 up to 700 students will be on campus at any given time and in Phase 2 a maximum of 1,400 students would be on campus simultaneously. The first phase of construction is planned to begin in 2005 and end in 2006. The second phase is planned to commence in 2010. Facilities expected to be shared by the two campuses include an instructional building with approximately 5,000 to 8,000 square feet of floor area and a performing arts theater (500 seats). The theater will be used during school hours, as well as evenings and weekends for school and community cultural events. An outdoor amphitheater may be included. Other shared facilities will include a campus center building with food services and bookstore, roadways, pedestrian paths, and certain parking facilities. It is intended that shared buildings be located at the junction of the two campuses. The campus will also include a public library with 30,000 square feet of floor area developed and operated jointly by the two school districts and the City of Lincoln. Shared facilities will be operated and maintained under reciprocal agreements, which may include leases.
