Document Description
The current study, conducted for the proposed Shaw Valley Hiking/Equestrian Trail project, was completed in compliance with City of San Diego and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements. The study area is located in the Carmel Valley area of the City of San Diego, east of Interstate 5, and south of Shaw Ridge Road and Shaw Valley. The project area is shown on the Del Mar, California (1968) 7.5' USGS topographic map and the City of San Diego 800' scale map.
The proposed Shaw Valley Hiking/Equestrian Trail is part of the Neighborhood 10 Equestrian/Hiking Trail system that will provide an uninterrupted equestrian/hiking trail system throughout Neighborhood 10, with direct links to the CVEP trail consisting of 463 m (1,519 linear feet ) of existing trail and 1,215 m (3,985 linear feet) of new (impacted) trail. The cultural resource study included a literature review, record search, and field survey. Literature information and site records on recorded cultural resources within a one-mile radius of the study area were obtained from data provided by the South Coastal Information Center at San Diego State University. In addition, early maps were checked for historic resources.
