Document Description
A Conditional Use Permit (CUP) to allow a surface mining operation and development of a reclamation plan in accordance with the reclamation plan for project site disturbance associated with mining activities. As proposed, mining would coincide with contiguous mining operations to the north and east and utilize open pit/multibench/side hill/drill and blast mining techniques. Implementation of the request would annex and supercede a previous mining entitlement known as the "8 West" area permitted under CUP 1, Map 236. Implementation would also overlap a portion of an adjacent mine boundary known as the "104" area permitted under CUP 5, Map 236. However, the affected annexation area of the "104" mine boundary would not supercede any previous mining entitlements since none existed within the area of overlap. The applicant estimates that over 1,000,000 tons of limestone, dolomite, shale and other materials suitable for cement manufacturing would be removed per year, with a total anticipated mineral commodities production of 500,000,000 tons, over the anticipated 150-year life of the project. Maximum depth of excavation would be 600 feet. No phasing is proposed. Method of water supply (for dust control) and sewage disposal would be via existing offsite well and sewage disposal systems, respectively. Access would continue to be by dirt haul roads off a five-mile paved entrance road from State Highway 138.
