Document Description
DFG is intending to execute a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement (SAA# 1600-2004-0385-R5) pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project applicant, City of San Diego, Metropolitan Wastewater Department. The applicant proposes to alter the stream to widen a portion of the San Diego River to accommodate wetland vegetation. The created basin bottom will be graded to an elevation approximately 2 feet above the existing San Diego River channel and will be planted with native riparian vegetation. In order to prevent increased scouring within the San Diego River channel, the riparian mitigation area is to be partially separated from the main channel by a low earthen/vegetated berm. The berm will prevent effective flows within the San Diego River from being diverted in to the created riparian mitigation area. The slopes of the basin will be graded at a 3:1 ratio from the bottom of the expanded creek bed up to meet the existing upland grade. Approximately 3.63 acres of riparian habitat will be created within the new basin and lower third (approximately) of the created slopes. Approximately 0.90 acres of Diegan coastal sage scrub buffer will be planted on the remainder of the created slopes.
