The "library block" project site inlcudes the existing main library, Mathes Center and associated parking lots privately owned businesses, and the Women's Club building owned by a local church, all of which will be acquired as part of the project. All parcels involved with the proposed project are located within the urban core of downtown Escondido. The Escondido Women's Club building is listed on the City's Local Register of Historic Places. In order to preserve this historic structure, the building will be relocated as part of this project. Other structures on the "library block" , with the exception of the Mathes Center, will be demolished
Document Description
Demolition of the existing 40,750 square foot Escondido Main Library, and the associated construction of a new 86,000 square foot library building and 220 space parking garage on the library block which is defined by 2nd and 3rd Avenues and Broadway and Kalmia Street. The existing Mathes Center will remain in its current location.
