Three young growth giant sequoia stands will be thinned as part of a lumber study. Cooperators for this project include: MHDSF, Whitakers Forest, University of California Forest Products Lab, Tule River Indian Reservation, private industry, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the U.S. Forest Service. Various stand ages and diameters will be necessary for this project. The stands at MHDSF are approximately 50 and 70 years old, and are about 1-2 acres in size. They are all located adjacent to existing roads on gentle to flat terrain. Approximately 3-6 truckloads of logs will be removed for this project. No wet areas or watercourses are associated with the project areas.
