Document Description
The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department proposes to continue to operate a summer dam, at Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach, on the Russian River near Healdsburg, Sonoma County. The dam is made of flashboards raised on an existing permanent foundation and has been installed annually since 1955. Prior to the construction of the existing dam, a dam of a different design had been constructed since 1905. To permit downstream migration of juvenile steelhead and salmon and upstream migration of American shad, flashboards are installed no earlier that June 26. The flashboards are removed immediately after Labor Day, about September 12 at the latest, to avoid impacts to upstream migrant chinook salmon. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2992-0079 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1603.
