Document Description
Remove and replace all asphalt concrete road surfaces, curbing, and curb drain aprons at the Hilltop of Hearst San Simeon State Historic Museum, between Gate 4 and the vehicle turnaround in front of the Roman Pool. Remove asphalt concrete overlying lower step of historic Grand Entrance Stairway. In addition, remove approximately 10 linear feet of non-historic vanity wall and steps across from #1 tour bus drop-off point and replace with an asphalt concrete ADA-compliant ramp. The existing triangular non-historic road divider/planter in front of Gate 5 will be permanently removed. Project will improve visitor safety and accessibility, project park resources, and support continued maintenance.

Project consists of the repair and minor alteration of existing public facilities, involving negligible expansion of use beyond current levels and restoration of an historic resource (Grand Entrance Stairway step). Work on historic resources will be conducted in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for preserving, rehabilitating, restoring, and reconstructing historic buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer.
