Document Description
This project, to be carried out by the City of Long Beach involves the planting of 600 trees scattered in various street and pedestrian walkway locations through out the city. It is anticipated that this project will commence planting trees in March 2002 and run through September 2002. Trees will be native and non-native ornamentals that have been selected for their disease resistance, adaptaion ot the urban landscape, shade capacity, and minmal litter production. Trees will be 15 gallon size, and all trees will be planted, staked and tied, watered and maintained in accordance wih the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's tree planting guidelines.

As lead agency under CEQA, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection finds that this project is Categorically Exempt from further environmental analysis. This project involves minor alterations to land and vegetation including the planting of new landscaping trees. As this is a heavily disturbed urban environment there is a low likelihood of impacting any significant biological resources. CDF's staff have reviewed this project and determined that there is no cultural or historic resource present in the project vicinity. CDF's finds that the proposed activities will pose a less than significant impact to the environment including cultural, historic and biological resources.
