Document Description
The project purpose is to paint the Tower Bridge to protect the structural integrity of the steel. The percentage of rusting on the bridge is approximately between 5-10% of the total steel surface area. This corrosion results in losses in some of its section or size potentially reducing its load carrying capacity; therefore painting the bridge will prevent this degradation. The first step of the painting process is to put in palce scaffolding and a containment system of sandbags and tarps, and other appropriate containment measures to insure capture of project spoils and debris. This action will be followed by cleaning the steel surface where paints will be applied using a high-pressure water wash system. Hand and power tool cleaning will remove steel containing rust or any other foreign substances that are not removeable by high-pressure washing. Rust locations will be cleaned down to bare metal.
