Document Description
The purpose of the project is to replace a failing check dam, reduce and stabilize the channel gradient and to temporarily stabilize a failing hill slope along Strawberry Creek in the University of California at Berkeley (UCB) Botanical Garden, Alameda County. The overall objective of the project is to temporarily stabilize the hillside and protect it from future scouring at the toe. The check dam will be removed entirely, and in its place, five boulder drop structures will be installed and the slope of the creek bed will be slightly regarded as proposed in the project plans. Weirs will be placed in a series of closely spaced single rows and drops of six to eighteen inches will be created, for an average two precent slope. Rock slope protection (rip-rap) will be placed at the excavated toe of the slope to the ordinary high water maximum 2:1 slope, hydroseeded with native grasses, forbs or other suited native species and an erosion control fabric. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2001-0543 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1601.
