Document Description
The proposed project would seismically retrofit the Old Canyon Road Bridge over Alameda Creek. An inflatable dam downstream from the project site would be deflated prior to construction to dewater the site, and water remaining within the site would be diverted through a pipe. The bank immediately surrounding the first and seventh bents would be excavated and isolation casings would be installed around these bents. The span between the remaining five bents would be filled in with concrete to create one-piece, solid support structures under the bridge deck. Concrete would be pumped between the bents from a truck operated on the bridge deck. Approximately three months would be needed to complete the project, which would be completed in conjunction with a nearby project to widen the Mission Boulevard Bridge, located a few hundred yards downstream of this site. The project is needed to enhance public safety, as the bridge was constructed in 1948 and is not expected to withstand the forces of a major earthquake. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2001-0544 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1601.
