Document Description
Pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements, the Department of Water Resources will prepare a programmatic EIR for development of a Critical Water Shortage Reduction Marketing Program (CWSRMP). The PEIR will address recommendations of the Governor's Advisory Drought Planning Panel that the Department implement a Critical Water Shortage Reduction Marketing Program. The Department will identify critical water needs for urban and agricultural water uses; develop criteria to prioritize and select sources of water; and identify, analyze, and develop implementation actions that will form programmatic action alternatives for the CWSRMP. In addition, the Department will develop a contingency plan to reduce the impacts of critical water shortages for agricultural and urban water users, procedures for purchase and storage of water; and mitigation measures for impacts to local water users and people depending on water supplies. During the operation of the programmatic EIR, the Department will facilitate involvement of interested stakeholders through appropriate meetings and provide assistance in responding to resource agency consultation requirements. The Department expects to complete the draft PEIR in August 2002.
