Document Description
The project will construct a seven-story (four above-grade plus three below-grade)188,000-gsf building for the newly created California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) in the core campus zone of the UCLA campus. The California NanoSystems Institute will support collaboration among scientists to advance the science and engineering of complex nnosystems, the molecular and atomic manipulation of artificial and natural systems for the advancement of biomedical, environmental, and information technologies. The project will be located on the western edge of the of the Court of Sciences south of Bolter Hall and will house research laboratories and administrative space, including a maximum of about 150 fume hoods. The main entrance will be from the Court of Sciences, with three above-grade levels designed to span over the top level of Parking Structure 9 (PS 9) to the west. The project includes replacement of pedestrian access stairs and elevator for PS 9, fire service access improvements to the alley along the north side of PS 9, and a provision of hardscape and landscape elements. The existing roadway between Bolter Hall and PS 9, and provision of hardscape and landscape elements. The existing roadway between Bolter Hall and PS 9 will provide Service vehicle access. Project construction is anticipated to last for approximately 31 months beginning in the Fall of 2002.
