Abraham Lincoln Elementary School/Conversion of Portables to a Permanent Classroom Structure

In order to allow Abraham Lincoln Elementary School to change from operating on a year round schedule to a traditional schedule, the School District proposes to replace 29 single story portable classroom structures exising on-site with 32 permanent classrooms, with accessory/support areas. The construction of permanent classrooms proposed would allow change from a year round to a traditional schedule but would not increase the enrollment capacity of the school. It would, however, result in a greater number of students on-site at one time. The proposed permanent classrooms would be contained in a single two-story building, approximately 47,253 square feet in size, to be located at the southwest portion of the school site adjacent to Camile Street. The area is presently devoted primarily to playfields and recreation area. Portable classrooms on-site presently occupy approximately 28,220 square feet of area that would be returned to playfields/recreation uses. The proposed two-story classroom building would occupy a footprint of approximately 26,627 square feet in area, resulting in a net gain of approximately 4,593 square feet of playfield/recreation area. No portable classrooms would remain on-site after the proposed project is implemented. The change in the operating schedule and additional recreational area regained would benefit the students of the school district.
