The project is designed to comply with the Waste Discharge Order No. 5-01-100, providing for construction of groundwater monitoring wells around the wastewater treatment facilities and spray disposal field to assess the impact of the discharge on water quality; a tailwater control system to capture excess surface runoff from the disposal field and return it to Pond 3; and chlorination facilities necessary to achieve specific limits on total coliform. Five groundwater monitoring wells will be installed in the vicinity of the three oxidation ponds and the spray disposal field to assess the impact of wastewater discharge on groundwater quality. The tailwater return system will consist of a V-ditch and collection pipe to capture surface runoff and a return flow pump station to recieve captured surface runoff for return to Pond 3. A 500-gallon self-contained tank of sodium hypochlorite will be located west of the chlorination building within the existing fence enclosure.
