Document Description
Combined Development Permit consisting of a Use Permit and Reclamation Plan for an instream sand and gravel mine in the Salinas River with stockpiling and portable screening equipment located on the adjacent terrace, westerly of the river. The project site covers approximately 200 acres. Maximum production allowed will be 150,000 cubic yards of aggregate per year. The instream excavation component of this operation is allowed under Army Corps of Engineers Regional 404 Permit #22309S which allows channel clearing and sandbar skimming for flood control purposes. Potential impacts associated with these activities have been analyzed in a prior Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration (Salinas River Channel Maintenance Program, March 26, 2001). The Initial Study currently being circulated for comments focuses on impacts that were not considered in the previous Initial Study. These are impacts associated with screening the aggregate and hauling the material offsite. The site is located approximately 2.5 miles southwest of the town of Chualar and approximately 0.5 miles south of the Chualar River Road bridge, Central Salinas Valley Planning Area.
