Document Description
An estimated 600 cubic yards of solid waste has primarily been dumped and burned in an abandoned quartz quarry. Approximately 50 percent of the waste has been dumped on property owned by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with the remaining solid waste scattered over several adjacent parcels. Waste types include household trash/garbage, construction/demolition (C/D) debris, furniture, appliances, dismantled vehicles, landscape cuttings, and waste tires. Remediation of the site includes transporting un-recyclable solid waste (e.g., household garbage, wood debris, etc.) to appropriate landfills; separating and hauling metal debris to appropriate recycling facilities; and packaging and proper disposal of all household hazardous waste and asbestos-containing waste. At project conclusion, earthen berms will be placed at various key locations to discourage future illegal dumping. It is anticipated that all wastes will be removed and no further action will be required other than monitoring by the County Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) to ensure no additional illegal dumping occurs.
