Major Arterial Highway-Existing 6 Lane Divided Roadway
Document Description
The proposed roadway widening consists of improvements to Alicia Parkway from Charlinda Drive to Muirlands Boulevard. Alicia Parkway, east of I-5, is built as a six- lane divided Major Arterial Highway in the City of Mission Viejo. The project involves widening the street from the present width of six-lanes to seven-lanes on the westbound side of Alicia Parkway. The additional seventh lane will be constructed in the westbound direction from Muirlands Boulevard to Charlinda Drive. The additional lane will operate as a combination through-right turn lane beginning at the intersection of Alicia Parkway at Muirlands Boulevard, continue westbound through the Alicial Parkway at Charlinda Drive intersection, and transition into the existing, exclusive right-turn lane onto the northbound I-5 freeway ramp. The roadway widening is proposed to occur within existing City public right-of-way that is currently improved with landscaping and a meandering sidewalk. The project also includes curb, gutter, sidewalk removal and construction, traffic signal and striping modifications, street lights, catch basin relocations, and relocation of directional signs. The project is intended to improve the operation and traffic flow within the project area, improve freeway accessibility to the I-5, and implement the planned roadway improvements per the Major Arterial designation standards.
