Five County Sanitation Districts wastewater treatment plants that are tributary to the San Gabriel River watershed cannot simultaneously comply with objectives for ammonia, total inorganic nitrogen, disinfection and trihalomethanes established in the NPDES permits. The recommended project will bring the plants into compliance by implementing the nitrification/denitrification process in existing aeration tanks. Installing ammonia addition facilities and justifing site specific objectives for ammonia.
