Document Description
The proposed Chapman University Specific Plan Amendment 5 adds several parcels in the surrounding area of the existing campus in order to implement the expansion plans. The addition includes the proposed site for the School of Film and Television, the Dance Center, and other sites to accommodate additional academic uses. The project proposes a new specific plan land use area, Academic 2 (A-2), that would include the School of Film and Television and other future uses. The A-2 area would permit more intensive uses than those permitted in the existing academic area. To further implement the Historic Preservation Element of the City's General Plan, the project proposes revisions to the current Specific Plan for inclusion of a historic preservation/enhancement process. In order to support the proposed and future uses, the adequate parking facilities would be constructed within the Specific Plan area. As part of the Specific Plan Amendment, the segment of Cypress Street between Palm Avenue and Maple Avenue is proposed for abandonment in order to facilitate a more integrated use of the site. The project would be phased in a logical and orderly sequence. Phase 1 would consist of the proposed site for the School of Film and Television and associated uses. The proposed project will provide a maximum capacity of 5,000 seats (maximum enrollment of 8,715 students).
