Document Description
The proposed project involves drainage improvements associated with the North County Transit District (NCTD) railroad right-of-way in the City of Del Mar in order to improve the seaside bluff stability, which is adjacent to the railroad tracks. The project also includes a slope monitoring system. The proposed subdrainage improvements are intended to be a part of a mid-term maintenance and preservation program (+ 20 years) to mitigate previously identified high-risk areas associated with drainage within NCTD right-of-way along the Del Mar bluffs. Subdrainage improvements include the use of interceptor trench drains and hydro-augers as well as the cleaning and rehabilitation of existing structures. Surface drainage improvements are also proposed within the NCTD right-of-way. Surface drainage improvements would consist of new and improved inlets, outlets, and culverts, as well as new ditches and improvements of existing ditches. The surface drainage improvements would consist of approximately 24 surface drainage projects. Lastly, the project would include the installation of a slope monitoring system. The monitoring system would provide early warning of both surface and subsurface movements along the railroad tracks in the project area. The warning system would stop trains entering the bluffs should a landslide endanger the tracks in a high risk area.
