Document Description
Repair and rehabilitate historic Greenhouse A at San Simeon State Historic Monument to preserve historic fabric and return structure to functional use. Metal components will be repaired in place, with structural reinforcement (not visible to visitors). The cypress components will be disassembled and repaired/replaced in kind and reassembled to their original configuration. Deteriorated concrete walkways will be replaced in kind. The south foundation wall will be stabilized in a manner which preserves the existing fabric and cause minimal change to the appearance. The non-historic added channel iron is compatible with historic construction and is reversible. Approximately 80% of original glazing is missing; all replacement glazing will be clear, tempered glass, installed in the same original "shingled" fashion (Photographs, drawings, and written rehabilitation). A DPR historian/archeologist will monitor all work and work will be done in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
