Document Description
The project is the installation of 170 cubic yards of 1 ton RSP along the bank to protect the bridge abutment on Bridges Creek, Mendocino County, Highway 101 PM 97.47. The creek bank has progressively eroded and removed all rock that had used [sic] to protect the abutment. The rock will be placed using a backhoe, dumptruck and loader. Access to the site will come from the upstream side of the #1 abutment. The RSP will be placed at the toe of the slope. Approximately 15% of the material will be placed below the estimated ordinary high water elevation. The site currently has a 7 foot high log and debris jam that diverts flow toward the bridge contributing to the erosion problem. In order to protect the bridge some logs will be removed from this jam to allow the water course to flow away from the abutment. The National Marine Fisheries Service and Department of Fish and Game will determine which specific logs can be removed prior to the start of the project. Some vegetation will be removed. The construction will occur from mid-June to the end of October. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number 2000-0741 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1601.
