Document Description
The proposed Caltrans Annex I and II seismic retrofit project would entail structural improvements and modifications to two Caltrans buildings to reduce the seismic risk levels as prescribed under the State Building Seismic Program. The reduction of seismic risk levels can be accomplished effectively by a new lateral load resisting system, consistent with the provisions of the 1998 California Building Code. The key aspect of the proposed retrofit project is the addition of reinforced concrete shear walls on the exterior corners of the building and at the juncture of Annex I and II. The walls would extend from the basement to the roof and would replicate original architectural details and include new slightly smaller operable windows at existing window locations at all levels.
