Document Description
The proposed project would develop a new day-use recreational area at the Dowdy ranch site, which is intended to provide seasonal public access to the southeastern side of Henry W. Coe State Park. The new day-use facilities would include: a park office/visitor center to provide interpretative and trailhead information; group/family picnic sites; an equestrian staging area; trailhead access to the backcountry area; new parking areas, which include 46 paved parking spaces and 10 horse-trailer spaces; two 100-series restrooms; and necessary water and utilities. In addition, the proposed project would provide safer access to the Dowdy Ranch site by improving the entrance road (Kaiser-Aetna Road) with the addition of base rock and minor grading, compaction, and erosion control measures as needed (the road would retain its current footprint). Internal circulation would also be improved through the redesign and paving of internal roads. Other project features include erosion control measures throughout the project area, including two culvert installations with overside road drains along Kaiser-Aetna Road and the installations with overside road drains along Kaiser-Aetna Road and the installation of rock apron and energy dissipator used to repair an existing culvert at the Dowdy Ranch Site.
