Document Description
This project will result in a 100 to 200 foot wide shaded fuel break extending approximately sixteen miles around the community of Paradise Pines and Firhaven development. The shaded fuel break will be created using fire crews or contractors applying manual removal techniques. Debris will be chipped and returned to the treated areas, burned on site or removed as biomass fuel. In inaccessible locations, piled brush may be burned. All dead material approximately 1/4" to 3" in diameter will be chipped or removed. Select dead material between 3" and 8" will be chipped or removed. Larger dead material will be left in place. Brush will be cut and chipped. Conifers and unhealthy hardwood trees will be removed if under 8 inches DBH. Remaining conifers will be pruned to 20 feet or 1/3rd healthy, live crown, whichever is less. Remaining hardwoods will be pruned so that no branches extend within 10 feet of the ground. Spacing between remaining conifers and hardwoods shall be a minimum of 20 feet between stems. In areas compromised primarily of brush stands, select healthy species will be retained with fifteen to twenty foot spacing. An effort will be made to protect conifers and hardwood species within the brush stands.
