Document Description
The proposed project includes construction of levees, consisting of earthen berms between 8 and 15 feet in height on the north side of the creek from Grand Avenue to Bent Avenue. On the south side of the creek, Discovery Street would be improved to its ultimate General Plan designation configuration. Discovery Street would be elevated approximately 8 to 15 feet, so that the lateral support for the road would also serve as the southern levee for the creek. Within the creek channel, existing grades would be lowered to provide additional flow capacity within the channel. Additional road improvements proposed by the project include the widening and extension of Grand Avenue from San Marcos Boulevard to Discovery Street. Grand Avenue would be improved to its full General Plan designated dimension of 84 feet for the entire length from San Marcos Boulevard to Discovery Street. Construction of the Grand Avenue Bridge crossing of the creek is also proposed. The bridge would be approximately 300 feet in length, 84 feet in width, and would connect the existing segment of Grand Avenue to the extension of Discovery Street on the south. Improvements to San Marcos Boulevard would include a 12-foot widening on the southern side of the road for an additional eastbound thru lane, and addition of a northbound left turn lane.
