Document Description
The proposed action is to remove the bridge and the west abutment. Once the west abutment has been removed, there will be a cavity remaining. This cavity will be contoured to the existing grade of the riverbank with minimal rip rap placed in the void, mimicking the surrounding topography. The east abutment is attached to a large boulder and will be left in place. This abutment would continue to protect the Happy Isles Gauging Station located immediately downstream from the bridge and would provide a viewing platform for visitors. All concrete and steel would be removed from the area and properly disposed of. It is anticipated that the project would occur in October, November, and possibly the first weeks of December 2001 to take advantage of the low flows in the Merced River. The project is expected to be completed within 45 days.
