Document Description
The City of Whittier will consider the adoption of a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the proposed creation of an inter-modal link between Los Angeles and Orange counties through the implementation of the Whittier Greenway Trail project. The City envisions the enhancement of both bicycle and pedestrian movement in and around the Whittier area, through connections the proposed trail will provide with the San Gabriel River and Los Angeles River/Upper Rio Hondo Trails, as well as portions of north Orange County and its existing bikeway network. The City of Whittier is contemplating the acquisition of the 5.18-mile, Union Pacific Railroad right-of-way, completing Phase I of the Whittier Greenway Trail project. The 5.18-mile long right-of-way will be converted into a class I bike and pedestrian trail consistent with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Souteast Area Bicycle Master Plan. The Project will create a bi-County link that will provide a direct route from Whittier's western corporate boundaries to its eastern boundary.
