Document Description
The project consists of dredging mud and silt from approximately 3300 feet of the creek. This is a yearly maintenance project that has to be done due to agricultural runoff from upstream farms. The dredged mud and silt will be taken off site or deposited onto existing farm fields. The creek has been channelized for over 40 years and the entire valley through which the creek flows has been in continuous cultivation during this time period. These conditions have resulted in creek siltation with fine particulates which is the primary constituent of the streambed. Even after dredging, the composition of the streambed will not change. If dredging does not occur, both Little Oso Flaco Creek and Oso Flaco Lake will silt in. This would result in the loss of highly significant wildlife resources. This project will ensure that flow characteristics remain constant in the creek. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Number R3-2000-1118 pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 1603.
