Document Description
Replace Coastal Live Oak trees (quercus agrifolia) that were historically present in the formal gardens (Hilltop Gardens) of La Cuesta Encantada at Hearst San Simeon State Historic Monument. Small oaks transplanted from other locations on the property or grown from acorns collected from existing trees will be used to replace trees that were removed following death or disease. Six non-historic trees (planted in locations of original oaks) will be removed to allow replacement of historic oaks. Acorns will be propogated on-site to avoid Sudden Oak Death Syndrome transmittal. All work will be conducted in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
