Document Description
The Study will provide an evaluation of the existing flood management system and will develop potential measures that would reduce flood damages in the Study area while integrating opportunities for environmental restoration. A full range of structural and nontraditional flood damage reduction components will be considered. They will concentrate on problems associated with the main channels of the Sacramento River, Sutter Bypass, Feather River, and their associated floodplains. The final report will be an integrated feasibility report and joint EIS/EIR. The following measures are currently being considered for evaluation: strengthening and/or raising levees; backup and ring levees; levee realignments; upstream reservoir reoperation; improved or additional bypass channels; management of existing vegetation within floodways or on riverbanks; off stream temporary storage; channel dredging; and a change in the operations of and conveyance to State pumping plants along the east levee of the Sutter Bypass.
