Document Description
The California Tahoe Conservancy has authorized a grant to the Tahoe City Public Utility District for site improvements for implementation of the West Shore Bicycle Trail Upper Sequoia Crossing Project. The project as proposed includes the reduction of highway lane widths in both directions, a painted center island, international crossing stripes, and a pedestrian-activated warning system. Flashing beacons and signs are also proposed for placement approximately 500 feet and 250 feet from the crossing in both directions to alert drivers of the presence of people in the crossing. The project also includes a redesign of the north side of the trail to eliminate sleepness and create a 5% maximum grade for consistency with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The trail would maintain a minimum eight-foot width, with an additional two feet of clear shoulder on each side, and be striped to accommodate two-way traffic. A four-foot-tall split-rail fence would provide additional separation between trail users and the highway. The proposed trail realignment would require 260 feet of four-foot-tall retaining wall.
